چکیده
conclusions our data showed that the amount of hydration, transfusion, pre-manipulation arrhythmia, and pulmonary function should be controlled to decrease the risk of arrhythmias. minor mediastinal manipulation, few intraoperative hemorrhages, improvement of pulmonary function, and careful blood pressure monitoring can reduce the risk of hypotension. patients and methods in this prospective study, we selected 61 patients undergoing transhiatal esophagectomy during 2012 - 2013 in our hospital. the demographic information, site of the tumor, cardiopulmonary function, transfusion, preoperative and postoperative complications (i.e. arrhythmias, hypotension), operation time, duration of mediastinal manipulation, amount of hemorrhage, volume loss, volume intake, mean systolic and diastolic pressure, and death rate were evaluated by chi-square, fisher’s exact test, anova, and t-tests. results the mean age of patients was 61.24 ± 11.48. in the study group, 8.2% of the patients before, 50.8% during, and 11.2% after mediastinal manipulation showed arrhythmia. tumor location, the need for transfusion, pathology of the tumor, presence of arrhythmia before the operation, fev1 (forced expiratory volume) > 2 liters, and mean volume intake were significantly different between the patients with and without arrhythmia. hypotension was shown in 8.2% of the patients before and 57.7% during mediastinal manipulation. manipulation times, volume loss, mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure before the operation, and fev1 > 2 liters were statistically significant in occurrence of hypotension. background transhiatal esophagectomy (the) is a widely used technique for carcinoma of the esophagus and other conditions, such as benign strictures and motility disorders. objectives the aim of our study was to quantify the incidence, predisposing factors, as well as types of arrhythmias in transhiatal esophagectomy.

متن کاملRisk Factors for an Intraoperative Arrhythmia during Esophagectomy
PURPOSE Arrhythmias after an esophagectomy (most commonly atrial fibrillation) are a significant contributing factor to patient morbidity. However, the significance of an intraoperative arrhythmia is not completely understood. The aim of this retrospective study was to determine the occurrence and risk factors for developing intraoperative arrhythmias in patients undergoing an esophagectomy. ...
متن کاملIncidence, risk factors and prevention of herpes zoster: review article
Herpes zoster (Shingles; Zona) is an acute infectious skin disease that is caused by the reactivation of varicella zoster virus (VZV). After the initial infection (chickenpox) or vaccination, the virus remains inactive or latent in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG); when decreasing cell mediated immunity (CMI) occurs, the virus is reactivated from a latent phase to a lytic phase and frequently repl...
متن کاملEfficacy of Intraoperative, Single-Bolus Corticosteroid Dose to Prevent Postoperative Respiratory Complication after Transhiatal Esophagectomy
Introduction: Esophageal cancer is among the most common malignancies. Hospital mortality in the past decade reduced; but its morbidity is still high. Pulmonary complications are the most common complications after esophageal resection. In this study we examined the effect of steroids administration during surgery to reduce postoperative morbidity with a focus on respiratory complications.Mater...
متن کاملChanges in blood pressure and heart rhythm during transhiatal esophagectomy
Background: Esophagectomy is considered to be the main treatment for esophageal malignancies. Among the different methods, transhiatal approach can cause less damage to patients and is widely used however, manipulation of esophagus result in heart rate and blood pressure variations. The aim of this study was to investigate changes in blood pressure and heart rhythm during transhiatal esophagect...
متن کاملBenign anastomotic strictures after transhiatal esophagectomy and cervical esophagogastrostomy: risk factors and management.
UNLABELLED Benign stricture formation at the cervical anastomosis after transhiatal esophagectomy with gastric tube interposition is an important source of morbidity. In a large group of patients (n = 269) who had undergone transhiatal esophagectomy with gastric tube interposition, we examined surgical and nonsurgical risk factors for the development of benign strictures at the cervical anastom...
